The 2004 Wiltinger Riesling trocken represents a remarkable value, in as much as it comes from the estate’s seven-acre surfeit of Wiltinger Braunfels, making this like a Grand Cru sold at a Bourgogne price! (I’m basing my comments on the ex-cellars price; a U.S. retail price has not yet been set.) Ripe peach, sweet herbal, and wet stone aromas lead to a salty, nutty, quite bracing and overtly mineral, yet also polished and subtly creamy palate. The finish harbors more than enough herbal, fruit, and mineral diversity to hold the interest of even a jaded palate. Importer: P. J. Valckenberg International, Tulsa, OK; tel. (918) 622-0424.
