The 2007 CABERNET SAUVIGNON RESERVE is pretty much on par with the ’06. It opens with oak and a streak of herbaceousness, as did the ’06, but it develops beautifully in the glass, the sweet fruit and oak overtaking the streak of green. It adds a layer of depth to the Merlot Reserve, but remains graceful and elegant in the mid-palate, a wine that is easy to drink and quite tasty. It became tastier with air. It will perform best in the short to mid-term, and I thought the tannins resolved a bit faster here than on the ‘06. Drink now-2017. Recanati, one of Israel’s larger wineries, makes all Kosher wines. The Yasmin lineup is also Mevushal. The regular bottlings—the “Diamond” series, because of the diamond on the label—is the next step up, followed by the Reserves and the Special Reserve. The “reserves” are where the best intersection of quality and price begins—they are reasonably priced and structured like moderately serious wines. Well made in general, they provide some easy drinking bang for the buck. This, in fact, is the best collection I’ve seen from Recanati. The 2006 CABERNET SAUVIGNON RESERVE is a nice success here for the price range. It does not, perhaps, have a lot of mid-palate concentration. It does have good focus, a bright and powerful finish, intensity and good flavors, though. It is also a bit herbaceous, which nuance becomes more prominent with air, although less so than in its sibling, the Merlot Reserve reviewed this issue. The mid-palate concentration might lag a little behind the backbone, at least considering how it showed young, but this is a pretty nice wine in its reasonable price category and it developed rather well in the glass.
