The 2008 Tinto "Quinta Do Alem Tanha" is 25% Touriga Nacional, with the rest an old vines field blend. Fragrant, largely with oak-nuanced aromatics, it seems lush and creamy, laced with vanilla and blueberry scents. Some 90 minutes of air greatly aided this in terms of subduing the oak a bit. At that point, like the Grande Reserva reviewed this issue, it became harder edged on the finish, with the alcohol (15.5%) often too obvious, but the oak better integrated. It should have some reasonable aging potential and will be better in a couple of years, when it settles down. This is certainly more serious, with more upside, than the regular Tinto, but I'm not sure it is any more enjoyable. With time, to be sure, the two wines should separate. Drink 2012-2020.
