The 2010 Late Bottled Vintage Port is an unfiltered blend of 30% Touriga Franca, 20% Touriga Nacional, 20% Tinta Roriz, 15% Tinta Amarela and 15% Tinto C?o, aged for 42 months in well-used wood. It comes in at 110 grams per liter or residual sugar and was bottled in May 2014. Simply lovely and sensual, it is also delicious, well-structured and laced with classic Vintage Port flavors. You take a vintage that wasn't good enough (supposedly, in some years) to be declared and you do something interesting with it. You make a more accessible wine, but you still make it REAL, with concentration, structure and focus. This has ripe tannins and a velvety feel. It is impeccably balanced. It doesn't automatically seem deep or powerful on opening, but it has enough of everything and then it expands in the glass. It grew on me steadily with air and when retasted the next day it was exceptional, showing its underlying power, more depth and fine penetration on the palate, all of which was muted on Day 1. That's what I often see with Vintage Ports, too. You can hold it or drink it, but note that its underlying power does come out more forcefully as it airs out–it was rather tight by Day 3, at which point it really showed how fine its structure is. Another year or two of cellaring wouldn't hurt, even if it is approachable. It might be one of my favorite 2010s at this point. There were just 6,000 bottles produced.
