Made from 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Cabernet Franc, 11% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Trine opens with a ripe and dark-fruited nose with aromas of black cherry skin, dusty, dried herbs, baked earth and wilted flowers. Medium to full-bodied, the wine displays a firm, mineral essence with dusty tannins that grip the gumline. The Trine displays the rustic ability of the Walla Walla Valley, ending with drying tannins on the lingering finish. The wine saw about 40% new French oak. Give it some time to harmonize in the bottle, and open in a year and a half and drink over the next decade. Just over 7,000 bottles were filled.

A blend of 42% Cabernet Franc, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Malbec, 9% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Trine offers fresh and generous aromas of dusty black fruits and hints of baked clay with soft French baking spices from 41% new French oak used. Medium to full-bodied, the wine has a firm tannic edge that will loosen with a few more years of bottle aging, so be patient with this and set it next to your Barolo in the cellar. My gut tells me that this bottling will begin to hit its stride at 10 years of age.

A blend of 35% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Malbec, the 2016 Trine opens to a delightful nose, showing precision and finesse, with aromas of dried tobacco, graphite, plum skin, dark cherry and blackberry essence and hints of dusty florals and French baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, the wine shows balance with lifting tannins that are currently tight but will loosen with some bottle aging. The wine ends with a tannic edge that is currently food-friendly. The wine spent 17 months in French oak, 41% new. I would give this at least one more year in bottle before opening. Just over 8,500 bottles were made.

A blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 10% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Trine is a firm, chewy and compact wine that assaults the tongue and gums with drying, bitter tannin. Unpleasantness comes at a premium, as it's the winery's most expensive bottling.

The 2014 Trine is a blend of 37% Cabernet Franc, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 9% Malbec and the balance Petit Verdot. It has impressive notes of cassis, black raspberries, baking spice and a touch of leafy herbs and flowers (no doubt from the high percentage of Cabernet Franc). These carry to a medium to full-bodied, elegant red that has good acidity and a clean finish. Drink this lively and downright pretty 2014 over the coming decade.
