This is a very rich 100% Cabernet. It’s not particularly Rutherford-esque, if that means anything anymore, but it is a full-bodied, varietally true wine, with deep flavors of blackberries and blackcurrants. This isn’t one of those soft, ultraripe Cabs. It actually has some structure, with firm tannins and fruity acidity that makes the mouth water. This ripe, forward Cab is extracted in fruit, and made soft in the modern style. It displays flavors of black cherries and cassis, with vanilla and char from oak, and a sweet herb note. Almost sweet, but fundamentally dry, it’s a nice steak wine. ——S.H.(11/1/2005)—— 87
