Sourced from the lieu-dit of les Escondudes, the all-Grenache 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Terrasses spent 15 months in older barriques. There is a touch of cedar as a result, but it's more of a brief hint, as the nose is dominated by ripe cherries and herbal notes. In the mouth, this is full-bodied, supple, rich and lushly textured, without being a massive, super-concentrated beast. With a long, spicy and complex finish, it's a winner.

An all-Grenache cuvée from a parcel planted on galets roulés, the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Terrasses matured in 400-liter barrels, but shows no overtly woody aromas. It's rather light in color, with delicate scents of red berries, moss and sous-bois, then delivers waves of raspberries and cherries on the full-bodied, silky-textured palate. There is a touch of warmth here, particularly on the finish, so keep it in mind if that's a particular sensitivity. Because of that, I'd recommend drinking it over the next 4-5 years.

The 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Terrasses is a Grenache cuvée drawn from old vines grown on stony soils. Hints of garrigue bring a sense of freshness to the ripe black cherry flavors of this full-bodied, supple wine. It's velvety, with hints of chocolate on the finish, but remains lively, not raisined.

The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Terrasses is a fine example of old-vine Grenache from a parcel of vines near La Nerthe. Rose petals and black tea accent pristine cherry and raspberry fruit in this full-bodied but silky-lacy, delicate wine. Long, briny and refreshing on the finish, it's deceptively drinkable but undoubtedly packs a wallop.

A disappointing effort. The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Terrasses starts off well, showing ripe red fruit on the nose, but then this full-bodied wine delivers tough, hard tannins accentuated by alcoholic heat.
