The star of this trio is the 2007 Syrah Double L Vineyard (from a stronger vintage overall than the 2008). It offers abundant cassis, floral, and fruit notes as well as an open texture and excellent purity. Clearly from a cool climate region, it is a fresh, lively, medium-bodied Syrah to enjoy over the next 2-3 years. Readers should think of it as a California version of a northern Rhone St.-Joseph. Nothing shy about this powerhouse Syrah. A barrel selection from Morgan’s cool-climate vineyard, it’s bone dry and strong in acids and tannins, with underlying flavors of blackberries, sour cherries, tobacco, mint, anise and spices, especially crushed black peppercorn.
