Monte Antico has been a consistent entry in this journal's pages. The just-released 1990 exhibits the mouthfilling, medium to full-bodied, supple style that has made Monte Antico both a delicious red wine and a terrific wine bargain. It possesses a big, smoky, roasted herb, and black-cherry-scented nose, chewy, intensely flavorful, robust flavors, decent acidity, light tannin, and a velvety-textured finish. It comes across as a hypothetical blend of a top-notch Chianti Classico and a Brunello di Montalcino. Interestingly, only a 12-foot stream separates the Monte Antico vineyard from the vineyards of Brunello di Montalcino. The 1990 Monte Antico Rosso should drink well for 3-4 years. This wine merits buying by the case. Don't miss it! Importer: Empson, USA, Inc., Alexandria, VA.
