Long-time readers know this perennial overachiever to be one of my favorite wineries. This Vino da Tavola can compete with Tuscan Chiantis and even Brunello di Montalcinos that sell for three to five times the price. The 1988, from a top vintage, exhibits a wonderfully complex, leathery, earthy, rich fruitiness in the nose, full-bodied, generously endowed flavors, an enthralling spiciness and richness, and a long, robust finish. Drink this complex, immensely enjoyable wine over the next 5-6 years.
