The 2011 Morellino di Scansano opens to a brooding, inky color and decisive aromas of dried mulberry, blackberry and cherry liqueur. The 13.5% alcohol leaves a mark and the wine finishes with smooth tannins and powerful black fruit flavors. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016.
Tiziano Ciacci, better known for his production of Brunello di Montalcino, makes Mocali wines in Maremma as well.
