The St Joseph releases are also brilliant. White peach, browned butter, crushed rocks and white flower notions all emerge from the 2015 St Joseph la Source Blanc. This 100% Marsanne cuvée is a flat out great value. Just bottled in July, with medium-bodied richness and notable freshness, drink it over the coming 4-5 years.

Like the 2013, the 2014 Saint Joseph La Source Blanc is an outstanding wine (100% Marsanne) that was brought up mostly in stainless steel (20% in demi-muids). It offers lots of quince, white currants and hints of toasted bread in a beautifully pure, layered, yet overall fresh, crisp style that keeps you coming back to the glass. It’s another solid value to enjoy over the coming 3-4 years.

The 2013 Saint Joseph Blanc la Source is a smoking white. Made from 100% Marsanne, it has lots of minerality in its powdered rock, white peach, honeysuckle and white floral aromas and flavors. It's rich, medium-bodied and elegant, and best drunk over the coming 2-3 years.

Also fresh and lively, with up-front white peach, citrus rind, crushed rock and honeysuckle, the 2012 St.-Joseph La Source Blanc (all Marsanne) is beautifully put together on the palate, with medium-bodied richness, integrated acidity and a clean, refreshing feel. It's a rock solid value to drink over the coming 4-5 years or more. Across the board, this is a superb lineup of wines that delivers high quality at all price points. Run by the team at Chapoutier, headed by Pierre-Henri Morel, the wines are made by Damien Brisset. This was a large tasting and I've simply listed the wines in the order we went through them. Within a vintage, the wines are broken up into three categories, the traditional releases, the Lieu-Dit releases, and the selections parcellaires releases. The 2011s are slightly softer and more streamlined than the 2012s. As a whole, they offer charming, supple and more medium-bodied profiles that will reward earlier drinking. Looking at the traditional releases in 2011, these wines show classic, yet approachable and delicious characters. In most cases they represent good value. Importer: A French Paradox, Peoria, IL; tel. The 2011 St.-Joseph La Source Blanc tastes like pure Marsanne. Excellent citrus, tangerine, honeysuckle and wet stone/pebble notes emerge from this lovely, medium-bodied, well-made white. The quality of Ferraton’s wines has been increasing with nearly every new vintage thanks to the efforts of Michel Chapoutier and his number one assistant, P.H. Morel, who has the responsibilities for these wines. I have included a few Southern Rhones that were not reviewed in Issue #203. Some of the 2011 white wines are in bottle, but the more serious cuvees are still in barrel.
