This is a terrific sparkling wine from a historic Umbrian producer never previously associated with sparkling wine production. A healthy dose of enthusiasm and willingness to experiment brings us the refreshing and delightful 2015 Brut Millesimato, made with a blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Nero. The wine sees up to 30 months of bottle fermentation and manual turning on pupitres for 45 days. It then remains neck down for one month before disgorgement, with three more months of aging after that. Chiara Lungarotti tells me that this wine is her new toy, and she has done a terrific job. The sparkling wine offers steely beading and tight bubbles with pretty fruit aromas backed by light shadings of baked bread. Some 30,000 bottles were produced.
