The certified organic Lungarotti 2020 Ilbio is a leaner and lighter style of Sagrantino that is fragrant and fun, and that by no means focuses on the stern or sometimes astringent characteristics that this Umbrian grape is known for. This is, in fact, a whole new take on Sagrantino with bold cherry, crushed white pepper and relatively soft tannins. Fragrances are prioritized over structure.

Here's a terrific discovery wine from Umbria. The Lungarotti 2018 Ilbio is a great, easy-drinking Sagrantino with nice balance, all at a decent price. There is some big, sweet cherry fruit on the nose, with interesting notes of dusty cement or crushed aspirin to a lesser degree. This is an organic wine that spends 10 months in large oak casks. Some 20,000 bottles were made.
