The Tenuta Lunelli 2016 Trentino Chardonnay Villa Margon (with 41,000 bottles made) is closed at first. I had a hard time getting the wine to open, and to be honest, I'm not sure it ever fully did. This wine is partially aged in stainless steel and another part goes into wood (of various sizes) for up to 12 months. The bouquet here shows a vein of citrus fruit, but you do get softer tones of pear and sweet almond at the edges.

The 2015 Trentino Chardonnay Villa Margon is a voluptuous and layered expression. The wine is not driven by barrel aging per se, but it is thick and concentrated thanks to the quality of fruit achieved in this warm vintage. It finishes with pretty flavors of peach and citrus.

The 2013 Trentino Chardonnay Villa Margon presents an elegant and streamlined style in which priority is given to the quality of the fruit. In truth, small percentages of Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon and Incrocio Manzoni are added to the blend. The protagonists are aromas of stone fruit, cantaloupe melon and wild sage. Crushed mineral also plays a role. Any secondary aromas (like oak spice) are neatly tucked in at the back and far from evident. The wine presents an elaborate mouthfeel with lightly creamy sensations and good textural firmness. Villa Margon is easy in approach, but not without its sophistication. This makes for a very attractive combination.
