The 2021 Tonel 46 Malbec is a light and approachable varietal red with notes of berries and flowers, moderate ripeness and 13.8% alcohol, a juicy palate and fine tannins. Half of the volume matured in barriques for 12 months, while the rest was kept in stainless steel. This is very clean and expressive, fresh and medium-bodied, easier to drink than previous vintages. It has fine tannins and a long, dry finish. Among the best vintages for this bottling. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2022.

I love the violet pastille aromas and character in the 2018 Tonel 46 Malbec, which comes through as varietal, clean, focused and fresh but keeping its character. The tannins are fine-grained and there is a nice texture. Very pleasant. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled between February and October 2020.

The challenge in the 2017 Tonel 46 Malbec is to keep the traditional style but also evolve in the style toward more freshness and better integrated oak than in the past. 2017 is a slightly warmer year, and the wine shows it in riper fruit and a juicier style, with round tannins and integrated acidity. 50,000 bottles produced. This has a little more oak than the Tonel 22 range, perhaps more noticeable because of the riper year too.

The perfumed and harmonious 2016 Tonel 46 Malbec was produced with grapes from their estate vineyards in Los Chacayes and El Manzano in Tunuyán in the Uco Valley. It matured in second use French oak barrels for six to eight months. It's floral and spicy and has an approachable palate with fine tannins, bright, juicy fruit and high acidity that makes you salivate. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2017.

The 2014 Tonel 46 Malbec is produced, like all the wines from Los Toneles, from their estate vineyard in the zone of Los Chacayes in Tunuyán in the Uco Valley. The difference between this and the Very Rouge that sells for the same price is that this is matured in second use French oak barrels. But I find more complexity and depth here, floral aromas and a touch of spices that make it very attractive. The approachable palate has melted tannins and juicy fruit, balanced and soft. Some 40,000 bottles were filled one year and two months after the harvest.
