The 2018 Rosso di Montalcino sees eight months of oak in both Slavonian casks and French barrique. This process adds spicy and smoky intensity to the vivid berry found at the core. That contrast between the acidic freshness of the fruit and the sweetness of the oak spice gives the wine balance and modest length. Production is 13,000 bottles.

The 2017 Rosso di Montalcino shows ripe and round fruit with cherry and dried raspberry. The quality of fruit is simple and one-dimensional, making this a good pairing partner to pizza or take-out foods. The wine is plummy, soft and fruit-forward. I very much like the heft and density you get here despite this being an informal expression of Sangiovese. Some 13,300 bottles were made.
