From an estate owned by Riccardo Cotarella, La Carraia is a name for thrifty consumers to remember. The flavorful 1998 Orvieto is about as good a wine as I have ever tasted from this appellation. Notes of dried apricots and peaches compete with flint and floral scents in this medium-bodied, dry yet expressive, elegant offering. An unwooded wine, it is meant to be drunk over the next 12 months.
