The domaine’s top cuvee is the outstanding 2011 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Seguret Beau Nez, a blend of 74% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 6% Carignan from the oldest and best parcels. It is a 500-case, unfined, unfiltered cuvee that delivers the goods, especially if you love the exuberant, warm, generous opulence of southern Rhone wines. It offers abundant aromas of kirsch, lavender and licorice, medium to full-bodied flavors, impressive concentration and a long finish. Consume it over the next 3-4 years.
One of the most beautiful Cotes du Rhone villages is the idyllic hilltop town of Seguret. My favorite estate from this area has long been Domaine Mourchon, but the Domaine Jean-David, a 42-acre estate that has been certified organic since 1987, is making waves. Doug Polaner is his name, and high quality wines in all price ranges is his game. I have been tasting with Polaner over a number of years, and these notes represent his very finest value selections.
