Despite the increased heat at the tail end of the growing season, the 2019 vintage was excellent, especially for the white wines of Friuli Venezia Giulia. This 2019 Collio Ribolla Gialla by Robert Princic's Gradis'Ciutta shows a pale golden color and straightforward aromas of stone fruit, melon, pear and quince. You get great value here. Like the other whites from this estate, an elegant mineral tone (always nice with shellfish) serves to tie those fruity flavors together and give the wine focus.

The contained 2014 Collio Ribolla Gialla shows a subtle delivery and an easy approach. The bouquet opens to lemon, crushed granite and pine nut. Only aged in stainless steel, the wine is crisp and easy with a point of sour grapefruit on the close.

The 2012 Collio Ribolla Gialla opens to a bright, luminous appearance and tight aromas of yellow fruit and natural rubber. The mouth-feel is incredibly linear and focused although there isn’t much pulp to hold it up. Drink: 2014-2015. Importer: Wine Emporium, www.wineemporiumny.com
