Last but not least is a fortified 2008 Tempranillo Dessert Wine sourced from the 24K Vineyard (where the Grenache and Mourvedre were harvested). The fermentation was halted at 19% alcohol and 10% residual sugar after which the wine was aged for 16 months in neutral French oak. A glass-coating, opaque purple color, it offers up a port-like nose of blackberry, plum, and violets. Tasty but youthful, it should evolve for several years and ultimately match well with chocolate.Gilbert Cellars is a family owned and operated winery that began in 2004. Last year’s collection was impressive and the new releases are a notable follow-up.Tel. (509) 249-9049; www.gilbertcellars.com
