The estate’s 2002 Vin Santo is the strongest wine in the line-up this year. It is a solid vintage for the late-harvest wines as weather towards the end of the harvest was actually much better than most people perceive. This blend of Trebbiano and Malvasia was harvested during the second week of November. The fruit was dried for 5 months, and the wine spent roughly 5 years in small barrels. It is a pretty, delicate Vin Santo, with perfumed, floral aromatics that lead to suggestions of dried flowers, roasted coffee beans, mint, toffee and spices. There is a hint of botrytis to the fruit, which adds another dimension to the wine. Although not hugely complex, the wine offers notable balance and harmony. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2012.
