The 2007 Gelber Muskateller Beerenauslese Magdalena (named for the birth of a Feiler daughter) issued from shriveled but only lightly botrytized berries and represents only the second harvest from young vines of this traditional variety that the Feilers have chosen to re-introduce (via Styrian clones) to their estate. Orange marmalade and dried apricot mingle with efficacious fresh citrus acid for a result that is both stimulating and rich. Smoky, saline, brown spice, and high-toned herbal notes contribute some complexity, and the finish resists superficial sweetness despite 140 grams of residual sugar. I would guess this will keep well for more than a decade. Feiler-Artinger's dry whites have generally not especially impressed me, but that is changing.Importer: Winemonger, Los Angeles, CA; www.winemonger.com
