The Duemani 2021 Cabernet Franc CiFRA is an entry-level wine that punches above its weight class (and its price point). This organic and biodynamic wine reveals dark, purplish fruit with a soft texture and velvety quality. It is layered with fresh blackberry, plum and tobacco, but the energy of the primary fruit is what stands out in this classic vintage.

Tasted before its release, the Duemani 2020 Cabernet Franc CiFRA was bottled in June and should hit the market shortly. This was a warm vintage, and I taste the ripeness of the fruit in the wine's thick layers of black cherry and blackberry. The wine offers ample fruit weight and discernible sweetness on the tannins. Winemaking takes this wine through cement vats and terracotta jars. The fruit is certified biodynamic and organic.

Made with biodynamic and organic fruit, the Duemani 2019 Cabernet Franc CiFRA is a bright and articulate entry-level wine from this top-level estate. The grape is left to speak for itself, as the wine sees very little meddling or intervention back at the winery. Most of the winemaking process is done in cement vats, and you taste the purity of the grape skins and juice as a result. Dark cherry and blackberry segue to tilled earth, dried oregano and cola. The results are fresh, tight and vertical.

Bottled in July 2019, the 2018 Cabernet Franc CiFRA is an easy take on this Bordeaux grape that saw only cement. Without the wood, this is a tighter and spicier expression with lots of tension, freshness and energy. It's more vertical than horizontal and less impactful in the mouth. This is an entry-level Cabernet Franc to pair with a steak salad sprinkled with Gorgonzola.

The 2017 Cabernet Franc CiFRA is made with fruit picked from the part of the vineyard that ripens first. Winemaking is executed in glass-tiled cement vats, and this helps to keep the fruit tight, focused and precise. Indeed, this is a wine that embodies the ideals of precision, and winemaker Luca D'Attoma has managed to pull off that aspect with beautiful clarity despite the heat and dry conditions of this vintage.
