The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses Blanc delivers aromas of pear, freshly baked bread, buttered popcorn, orange oil and pastry cream. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with a rich but lively core of fruit, its satiny attack segues into an enveloping mid-palate and a long, saline finish.

The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses Blanc unwinds in the glass with hints of crisp orchard fruit, orange oil and light reduction. Medium to full-bodied, saline and mineral, this is the most tightly wound, introspective of these whites from Bize today, but it's also the most concentrated and multidimensional. Even if it was a little closed when I tasted it, I expect it to be rather dramatic with only a modicum of bottle age.

Aromas of waxy lemon rind, yellow orchard fruit, toasted nuts and chamomile introduce the 2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses Blanc, a medium to full-bodied wine that's pure, succulent and elegantly textural, with chalky extract and a long, vibrant finish. It's hard to think of a better white Savigny.
