Aromas of sweet berries, plums, peonies, orange rind and raw cocoa introduce the 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes (négoce), a medium to full-bodied, ample and perfumed wine built around lively acids and velvety tannins. This has turned out especially well.

Wafting from the glass with scents of raspberries, plums, wild berries and sweet soil tones, the 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes (négoce) is medium to full-bodied, with lively acids and powdery structuring tannins underpinning its succulent core of fruit. It's a promising cuvée.

Produced from purchased fruit and vinified with one-third whole clusters, the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes (négoce) bursts with aromas of raspberries, berries, woodsmoke and sweet soil tones. It's medium to full-bodied, succulent and fine-boned, with a delicate core of fruit framed by powdery tannins.

The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from purchased grapes sourced from two lieux-dits: Drazy and Grammaire. It is 100% destemmed with 20% new oak. It has a seductive nose of baked black cherries, vanilla pod and hints of blue fruit that blossom immediately in the glass. The palate is well balanced with succulent ripe red cherry and cranberry fruit, a pleasant chalky texture toward the latter half with a mineral-intense finish. Excellent.

The 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from two parcels. It has a lifted bouquet with raspberry and mulberry fruit, the 20% new oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red and black fruit, delicate and spicy in the mouth with a slightly austere and foursquare, almost Morey-Saint-Denis like finish. I hope that this gains more "meat on the bones" by the time it is bottled next year - I am sure it will and may then merit a higher evaluation.
