Piaugier’s proprietors, the Autran family, have produced an excellent 2011 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Sablet Blanc from a blend of Grenache Blanc and Marsanne that is aged in old barrels. It possesses plenty of honeyed citrus and fresh floral notes in a medium-bodied, crisp style. Enjoy it over the next year.
Sablet is considered to have one of the better terroirs among the Cotes du Rhone villages for white wines. Doug Polaner is his name, and high quality wines in all price ranges is his game. I have been tasting with Polaner over a number of years, and these notes represent his very finest value selections.
