This dark ruby/purple-colored wine remains youthful, with a moderately intense, cassis, leafy, herb, and spice box-scented nose, medium body, excellent richness and flesh. There is not much complexity, but there is a chewy mouth feel and well-integrated tannin in the finish. The wine is approaching full maturity. Anticipated maturity: now-2003. Last tasted 8/96.

The 1990 Domaine de la Rousse, which is being aged in 50% new oak casks, is an attractive, medium-bodied, soft, fleshy wine with lovely fruit, an elegant personality, and round, graceful, yet generous flavors. It should be at its best between now and 2000. Last tasted 8/94.

The 1989 Domaine de la Rousse displays an attractive bouquet of superripe raspberries, light tannin, a soft, medium-bodied, supple palate, good glycerin, and a low-acid finish. In style and texture, it reminds me of some 1982 Cote Roties. Close to full maturity, it should be drunk over the next 4-5 years. Last tasted 12/95.

To date, this has been the best wine produced at Duboeuf's Cote Rotie estate. The wine remains deeply colored, tannic, and backward, with plenty of concentration, body, and tannin. It is a muscular, borderline rustic style of Cote Rotie that should age effortlessly for another 10-15 years. If all the tannin melts away and the wine achieves complete harmony it will merit an outstanding score. Drink it between 1999 and 2010. Last tasted 8/96.
