A blend of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc from the calcium-rich lieux-dits of Cabrières and Palestor, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Extrait was made and aged in a combination of demi-muids and concrete. Scents of honeycomb accent ripe pear, pineapple and tangerine on the nose, while the full-bodied palate is rich and generous, almost velvety in feel, culminating in a long, vibrant and citrusy finish. It's a terrific example of the appellation's white wines.

The 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Extrait is 80% Roussanne and 20% Grenache Blanc, with roughly half made in demi-muids and the other part in concrete. A bit reticent right now, with just hints of pineapple and tangerine, it's full-bodied but tightly wound and tense, seemingly in need of time to unwind. It's by no means unapproachable now, but it should be better in a year or two and drink well for close to a decade.

The impressive 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Extrait is an 80-20 blend of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc, nearly half of which ferments and ages in demi-muids. Pencil shavings frame harmonious, honeyed notes of tangerine, pineapple and lime in a wine that's full-bodied and rich without being heavy.

The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Extrait is a stunning blend of 80% Roussanne and 20% Grenache Blanc, matured in concrete and demi-muids. This medium to full-bodied wine is lush and creamy on the palate yet stays zesty and fresh, with mandarin oranges adding hints of wood spice and brine on the long finish. It's delicious now but should age successfully for up to 10 years.

Starting with the whites and made from 60% Roussanne and 40% Grenache Blanc that was raised in one- to three-year-old demi-muids, the 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc Extrait (Roussanne) is racy and lean, with pretty notes of buttered citrus, honeysuckle and toasted bread. It needs a smidge more flesh to really shine, but it does a lot right and has terrific purity and a clean, focused finish. It will be better this time next year and have 4-5 years or more of prime drinking.
