The 2004 Alicante Bouschet (Grand’ Arte) is a bit sharp and tart, with a sour cherry finish, and some light tannins around the edges. It is pleasant enough, and has some grip, but it is not particularly inspiring. Its fruit has a slight candied aspect. Drink now-2009. DFJ Vinhos makes a large range of value wines. It is probably best known internationally in the United Kingdom in that some of its former principals were partners in a UK importing company focused on Portuguese wines. Not surprisingly, DFJ holds a substantial share of the UK Portuguese market (43%, I was told). The wines reviewed here mostly seemed foursquare to me, with a certain routine air, but they offer decent value.Importers: Lemae Group, LLC, Smyrna, GA; tel.
