The 2004 Caladoc (Grand’ Arte) is bright, with some earth and tannins on the finish. It is straightforward, with a hint of bitter chocolate on the finish, not a bad every day wine if you like its flavor profile. (I didn’t.) It has little distinction, however. Drink now-2009. DFJ Vinhos makes a large range of value wines. It is probably best known internationally in the United Kingdom in that some of its former principals were partners in a UK importing company focused on Portuguese wines. Not surprisingly, DFJ holds a substantial share of the UK Portuguese market (43%, I was told). The wines reviewed here mostly seemed foursquare to me, with a certain routine air, but they offer decent value.Importers: Lemae Group, LLC, Smyrna, GA; tel.
