Chardonnay has not been Clos du Val’s strong suit, and even though this is a reserve, it’s hard to fall in love with. Dry and acidic, it lacks richness by today’s standards, although you could charitably call it Chablisian. Still, it’s an elegantly constructed wine with some complexity.——S.H.(12/15/2011)—— 87

Hard to say just why this Chard isn’t better. It’s nicely dry, with decent acidity, good oak and a mineral background to the citrus and peach flavors. There’s just a heaviness that keeps the wine from getting airborne.——S.H.(6/1/2011)—— 87

Here’s a rich Chardonnay with tropical fruit pastry flavors that have a dusty, dried herb edge, and lots of creamy oak. The wine is a bit soft. The fruit and spice flavors reprise on the long-lasting finish. ——S.H.(12/15/2006)—— 87
