Pierre-Yves Tijou and his sons offer a wide array of wines – and from numerous vintages simultaneously – including many user-friendly and well-priced examples of both dry and sweet Chenin. The barrel-fermented 2003 Savennieres Cuvee Anais exemplifies a successful integration of Chenin and wood as well as a well-balanced wine from this year of imbalanced weather and plant metabolism. Smelling of ripe white peach, almond and grapefruit rind, it goes on to cover the palate in creamy, peachy fruit, chalk and resin, leaving behind an impressively chalky, somewhat bitterly peach pit-inflected stain. It will be most interesting to see how this impressively dense and rich if, at present, rather monolithic wine evolves. Importer: Rosenthal Wine Merchant, Pine Plains, NY; tel. (800) 910-1990
