The 2016 Chateau Malagar is a blend of 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a clean, slightly floral bouquet with just a touch of crushed chalk. The palate is medium-bodied, perhaps a little rustic in style compared to its peers, but at least there is plenty of freshness here and there is a pleasant note of salted licorice right on the finish.

The 2015 Chateau Malagar is a blend of 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc that is harvested mechanically rather than by hand, matured in French oak for 12 months. It has a rather smudged bouquet that needs to show more delineation. It just feels a little enervated at the moment. The palate is soft and plush in the mouth with a grainy texture, though I would have preferred more substance to show through on the finish.
