Made with Sangiovese and Merlot, the 2013 Fiore is an oddly pungent wine with aromas of black olive and caper followed by ripe black fruit and sweet prune. The wine feels slightly underripe on the one hand and overripe on the other. It reveals a darkly saturated color with mid-weight appeal. Medicinal and balsam herb appear on the close. The finish is lean and short.

The 2007 Fiore (60-40 Sangiovese and Merlot) definitely delivers a perfumed quality of pressed rose and fragrant potpourri that lives up to the name Fiore (“flower” in Italian). Beyond those floral tones are distant notes of leather, tobacco rum cake and walnut skin. The mouthfeel is dry, dusty and slightly astringent. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2019.
