The 2015 Rosso di Montalcino is subdued in terms of its aromatic offering and offers dried fruit and cassis-like aromas. The warm 2015 vintage has shaped an immediate and accessible wine to drink within the next few years. This informal Rosso only sees five months in oak.

Smoke, tobacco, tar and black cherries are some of the many notes that literally explode from the glass in the 2011 Rosso di Montalcino. A big, structured wine, the 2011 has plenty of personality, character and complexity. Although a bit rustic, this is a solid effort from Casanuova delle Cerbaie. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016. The 2008 Rosso di Montalcino from Casanuova delle Cerbaie flows with notable grace. Dried cherries, smoke and tar are some of the nuances that emerge from the glass. The 2007 Rosso di Montalcino is a fresh, floral Rosso to enjoy over the next few years. Ideally the wine needs to be opened 30 minutes or so prior to serving to allow for some small imperfections to blow off. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011. Casanuova delle Cerbaie was purchased in early 2008 by American collector and investor Roy Welland, who is probably best known in wine circles for his New York restaurant Cru, which is also home to one of the world’s most breathtaking winelists. Welland and his team, which includes the talented Robert Bohr, are still in the process of making major improvements to the winery. Given the naturally slow pace of these operations, it will take at least a vintage or two before the results start showing up in the wines.
