The purple-colored 2006 Pie Franco was sourced from a single vineyard of ungrafted Monastrell vines planted in 1941 and 1942. The wine was aged for 16 months in new 500-liter French oak. It gives up a classy nose of toasty new oak, pencil lead, underbrush, spice box, and blueberry. Elegant on the palate and very tasty, it is need of a bit more depth and concentration. Drink it over the next eight years. Importer: Eric Solomon Selections, Charlotte, NC; tel. (704) 358-1565
