The Girlan 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Riserva Trattmann delivers redcurrant, cherry skin and soft earthy sensations. This wine is very floral in personality with dried rose and violets. It all checks out, especially if you are curious to taste a high-elevation Italian expression of this fragrant Burgundian grape. This wine offers elegance through and through. It ages in oak (barrique and botte) for 12 months. Some 28,000 bottles were made.

The 2018 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Riserva Trattmann is fragrant and bright with wild cassis and raspberry aromas backed by mild spice, iron ore and some pretty mineral definition. This Riserva clocks in at 14.5% alcohol, but that power is nicely woven into the soft and silky fiber of the wine. Like some of the other wines from this vintage, the intensity is milder and downplayed. This was a release of some 37,000 bottles.

The Girlan 2017 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Riserva Trattmann is a lovely expression with a full load of berry fruit, wild rose, candied orange peel and aniseed. The wine grows in intensity and focus as it opens and warms in the glass, imparting some minty apple as it does. The close is spicy and fresh. This Riserva offers a firm backbone and just enough structure to pair with a meat dish cooked with cream or butter. The fruit represents a blend from the prized Mazzon vineyard (with chalky clay soils) and a site in Cornaiano with gravel soils. One adds to the mouthfeel and the other the bouquet. Some 30,000 bottles were released.

This is an impressive wine that is beginning to show tertiary complexity. The Girlan 2016 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Riserva Trattmann is mid-weight in consistency with pretty aromatic intensity and a dark ruby appearance. The bouquet is very clean and bright with red fruit, dried berry, spice and crushed mineral. Trattmann continues to deliver life and energy to the senses.

This was a warm vintage that most certainly left its mark on the delicate Pinot Noir grape. The 2015 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Riserva Trattmann offers an unusual yet highly attractive and interesting bouquet in which the dark berry fruit is framed by light touches of smoke, tar and asphalt. The wine delivers a deep and more succulent sense of ripeness at its core. The alcohol is recorded at 14.5%, and you do indeed taste it. This wine ages in barrique for 12 months before going into botte grande to continue its evolution for an additional eight months. Fruit comes from the prized Mazzon subzone, and a small percentage is sourced from Pinzon, not far from Mazzon but with slightly warmer average temperatures. Some 30,000 bottles were made.
