A potent, bold and sturdy style, offering a mix of rich, extracted dark berry, mocha, cedar and crushed rock, with chunky, chewy tannins woven within. Best from 2014 through 2026. 117 cases made. –JL

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon The Core is big, rich and riper than the 10th Anniversary, but just as the fruit is concentrated, so are the tannins. Ultimately The Core comes across as a bit over-extracted. Twenty-four months in 100% new oak barrels seems too much here. I prefer the simpler wines. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. Tel. Exhibits rich flavors of dark berry, mocha, cedar, tobacco and spice. This is full-bodied and muscular, with chewy tannins, ending with a tarry edge. Decant, needs time. Best from 2013 through 2022. 158 cases made. -JL

The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon The Core is an extracted, rich, full-bodied, extremely backward, but very promising wine. It reveals a young Bordeaux-like profile of high tannin, good acidity and a broodingly backward personality. A dense purple color is accompanied by notes of blackberry and cassis.
