The 1999 Gran Reserve Cuvee 99, on the other hand, delivers the goods. It appears to be Valduero’s take on a more modern style since in this case the wine was aged in barrique for 30 months with the remaining time in bottle prior to release. Purple-colored, it reveals an exceptional aromatic array of pain grille, crushed stone, Asian spices, earth, lavender, blueberry, and blackberry. Opulent, layered, impeccably balanced and complete, it should blossom with another 5-7 years of cellaring. This very lengthy effort will be at its best from 2015 to 2035.
The winery produces two wines from Toro, located directly west of Ribera del Duero, under the Arbucala label.
