The 2008 Crianza is a blend of Monastrell, Tempranillo, and Cabernet Sauvignon that received 6 months of oak aging. Cedar, herbs, spice box, plum, and blackberry inform the nose of a smooth-textured, savory, round, forward offering that can be enjoyed now and over the next 5 years.
Almansa is an up-and-coming region tucked within the gigantic DO of La Mancha. The most interesting grape is Garnacha Tintorera (better known here as Alicante Bouschet) but Monastrell, aSyrah, and Tempranillo are capable of good things. The entrys from Bodegas Piqueras offer good value.
