The 2010 Arzuaga Reserva Especial is Tempranillo with 5% white Albillo aged for two years in oak barrels. It is oaky with aromas of vanilla and cinnamon, smoked meat and a palate that is dominated by excessively drying and harsh tannins. It is a shame, because the fruit is good and the wine has acidity, but the oak is excessive. This could have been a superb wine. It is not cheap. Drink now-2018.
Arzuaga-Navarro offers a parade of very well-crafted, well-oaked commercial wines of great success. The Amaya label feels different, though.
