The 2012 The Tally Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve has evolved beautifully in the two years since it was last reviewed by my predecessor. Aged in 50% new oak, it shows a smoky, cedary veneer of baking spices on the nose. It's medium to full-bodied but tight and linear on the palate, with fine-grained, firm tannins. For sure, the 2013 Cabernet is more attractive for current drinking, but I'm confident this wine will outshine and outlast that wine, as it finishes long and layered, with fine echoes of cassis and vanilla.
