Here's an offbeat red dessert wine from Argiolas. The 2011 Antonio 100 (500-mililiter) opens to a blackish color and dense concentration. The bouquet is heavily weighted down by plum, candied blackberry, exotic spice and crushed clove. As with many other red dessert wines, this expression offers a noticeable dose of astringent tannins with more oak toast and smoke. Really the only possible pairing partner to a wine like this is chocolate cake or fudge.
