The 2006 Grenache Nielson Vineyard may be even better than my rating indicates. The aromatics unquestionably merit a low 90 point score, but the palate did not hold up quite as well as the aromatics suggested. The sumptuous, penetrating bouquet includes notes of kirsch liqueur, raspberries, licorice, and loamy soil. The wine possesses attractive fruit, medium body, excellent rather than outstanding concentration, and a good, round finish. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.Tel. (805) 714-1732

The 2005 Grenache Nielson Vineyard reveals a deep ruby color in addition to a sumptuous, sweet nose of black cherries, raspberries, strawberries, and a hint of pepper. Satiny smooth and opulent with loads of fruit and full body, it is a terrific example of Santa Maria spin on a southern Rhone Valley wine. Drink it over the next 4-5 years.
