Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Bichot's 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint Jacques has a ripe, rounded and satisfying bouquet with plenty of Morello cherry, crushed strawberry and subtle pressed-flower aromas. This conveys a sense of comeliness. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite dense in the mouth with a fine bead of acidity, veering toward darker fruit with the finish that is structured and persistent. This is a superb Gevrey-Chambertin that should give 15 to 20 years of drinking pleasure, though it needs a couple of years to absorb the oak. Tasted September 2017.
