Matured mainly in stainless steel and amphorae, the 2021 Viognier has a delicate perfume of fresh quince, jasmine and almonds. The medium-bodied palate is fresh, gently rounded and layered with detailed fruits and a very long, gently nutty finish. Neither lean nor tropical, it strikes a fine balance that makes it ideal for the table.

The 2018 Viognier has a wonderful, classic perfume: honeysuckle and quince with an intense core of peachy fruit plus accents of honeyed oats, baker’s yeast and citrus peel. The palate is medium-bodied, intensely flavored and extraordinarily fresh, finishing very long. So lovely!

I continue to think John's Central Coast Viognier is one of the best values out there, and this barrel sample certainly validates that opinion. Scheduled to be bottled next week, the 2015 Viognier (which is all estate fruit in 2015) gives up beautiful, clean, crisp notes of lemons, flower oil, tangerine and pineapple in a medium-bodied, textured, yet fresh and balanced package. It doesn't have the depth and richness of the Estate release, but it's damn good nonetheless.
