Even bigger, richer and more massive, the 2009 St.-Joseph 730 Nuits could be mistaken for a top-notch Hermitage. Huge blackberry and cassis fruit aromas and flavors intermixed with notions of sweet cherries, strawberries, scorched earth and a liqueur of minerals emerge from this massive wine. Some tannins kick in the finish, so purchasers should wait for 7-8 years before popping a cork. It should last for 12-15+ years. I have always enjoyed Alain Paret's concentrated, full-bodied St.-Josephs, which never shortchange on richness, intensity or aging potential. All three of these 2009s will benefit from another 2-3 years of cellaring, which is somewhat unusual for this vintage. They possess major extraction, full-bodied personalities and plenty of density and richness.Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 832-9083
