The 2002 GARRAFEIRA is an upper level bottling from the winery. It spent 24 months in the bottle. In a difficult vintage, it is nonetheless rather attractive, featuring a soft, seductive texture tinged with oak and flavorful fruit. There is some brightness on the finish, as well as some ripe tannins around the edges. It is a little light in the mid-palate, a bit simple, and the oak is sometimes too obvious, but it is also the most charming of the releases from this winery that are presented here. For current drinking, this is quite pleasant, and even a bit seductive. It isn’t going anywhere, though, and should be best consumed in the near future. Drink now-2010.
