I got immense enjoyment from Latour's 1997 Batard-Montrachet. It delivers corporal pleasure in a bold, assertive, and flashy manner. Sweet white fruits, hazelnut puree, honeysuckle, and roses can be discerned in its blatant aromatics. This massive, broad-shouldered, and full-bodied wine is not for the weak. Thick, fabulously ripe layers of candied apples, spiced pears, toasty oak, and hints of tropical fruits are found in its ample character. It is not made for extended cellaring, yet will deliver enormous pleasure over the next 5-6 years. Louis Latour is represented by a different importer in each state.
